Split and read a client packet

Give it one PDF with a client's whole stack of tax documents. It finds where each document starts, names the files to your rule, lists what's still missing, and reads the numbers for you to check. The PDF is read in your browser, and private numbers are hidden before any text goes to our AI server.

How it works at your firm

  • We connect Karbon, Soraban and SmartVault, or a file server.
  • Your firm gets its own private server.
  • The AI runs on a server we rent, which doesn’t store your documents.
  • Your team checks everything on one review screen.
  • It starts with a workflow review of how your firm works today.

Karbon, Soraban and SmartVault are trademarks of their owners. TaxStack is not affiliated with them. All sample names and numbers are made up.

Build a small report or check

Describe it in a sentence, like “list every 1099 with tax withheld”. It writes the code, runs it on a client packet in a locked-down sandbox in your browser, and shows the result. You can read the code and ask for changes.

Or open a recorded example (no wait)

At your firm, the tools you build here run on your private server against your real Karbon, SmartVault and Soraban data, with a person approving any change.

    • Internal Revenue Code: Title 26 of the US Code, release point 119-120. Refreshed weekly.
    • Treasury Regulations: 26 CFR, as published on eCFR on October 9, 2026. Refreshed weekly.

    • Internal Revenue Bulletins: Revenue procedures, revenue rulings, notices and announcements since 2023. Refreshed daily.
    • IRS news releases: The last 24 months. Refreshed daily.

Not included: state and local tax law, court cases and tax treaties.

    Who it's for

CPAs, enrolled agents, tax attorneys, tax preparers and their staff who want a fast answer to a federal tax question, with the citation to check it.

What you can do with it

    • Research. Ask a federal tax question in plain English. The answer quotes and links the sources it used.
    • Documents. Drop in a client's tax packet as one PDF. It finds each document, names the files, lists what is missing and reads the numbers for review. Private numbers are hidden in your browser first.
    • Build. Describe a small report or check, such as "list every 1099 with tax withheld". It writes the code and shows the result.

    What it doesn't do

    • It doesn't store anything. There are no accounts and no saved history on our side.
    • It doesn't connect to your firm's software. Firm-workflow demos show recorded examples.
    • It doesn't give tax advice. Check the cited source before you rely on an answer.

Firms that want storage, live connections to Karbon, SmartVault or Soraban, or a version set up for their own workflows can have us build it. Write to taxstackai@gmail.com.

    Questions

Is Tax Stack AI tax research really free?

Yes. You don't need an account or a card, and it doesn't expire. When the AI server is busy, free visitors wait in a short line and see their place in it.

    What sources does it cite?

Five official US federal sources: the Internal Revenue Code (Title 26 of the US Code), the Treasury Regulations (26 CFR, from eCFR), 1,358 IRS publications and form instructions, Internal Revenue Bulletins since 2023 (revenue procedures, revenue rulings, notices and announcements), and IRS news releases from the last 24 months. Each answer links to the official page it used. The library is current through October 19, 2026.

    What does it not cover?

State and local tax law, court cases and tax treaties are not in the library. For those, use a research service that includes them.

Does it store my questions or documents?

No. There are no accounts and no database of your work. Documents are read in your browser, and details such as Social Security numbers are hidden before any text leaves it. We keep counts and timings, never the text of a question, answer or document.

Does it connect to Karbon, SmartVault or Soraban?

Not in the free version. The Documents tool shows the Karbon note and SmartVault requests a connected firm would send. Firms that work with us get those connections built for their own tools.

How is it different from TaxGPT?

As of October 14, 2026, TaxGPT's pricing page lists Pro, Pro Plus and Enterprise plans, gives prices only after a demo, and mentions no free plan. TaxGPT covers federal, state, local and treaty questions and connects to tax software and document storage. Tax Stack AI's research tool is free with no account, covers federal sources only, stores nothing and makes no live connections.

Can I rely on the answers?

Treat them as research, not tax advice. Every answer shows its sources, so open the citation and confirm it before you act on it or tell a client.

    Who is it for?

CPAs, enrolled agents, tax attorneys, tax preparers and their staff who need a quick, cited answer to a US federal tax question.

    Who built it?

Tax Stack AI, which builds custom AI systems for accounting and tax firms. Write to taxstackai@gmail.com with questions or to have a version built for your firm.
